I am what I think I am…

Who Are You Becoming?

Growth is not just about what you do—it’s about who you are becoming.

Many people spend their lives striving to prove their worth. We chase success, approval, and recognition, believing that if we achieve enough, we will finally feel secure. But the gospel tells a different story: your identity is not something you earn; it is something you receive.

When your identity is rooted in Christ, you no longer live for approval—you live from acceptance. This shift changes everything. Decisions become clearer, confidence becomes steadier, and your life gains a sense of purpose that is not dependent on circumstances.

The question is not simply, “What am I doing?” but rather, “Who am I becoming in Christ?”

3 Signs You’re Rooted in Christ

1. You Live from Acceptance, Not for Approval

When your identity is secure in Jesus, you are no longer driven by the need to prove yourself. You understand that you are already loved, chosen, and accepted. This frees you to serve, lead, and love others without the pressure of earning validation.

2. Your Decisions Reflect Eternal Values

A Christ-centered identity reshapes your priorities. Instead of being guided solely by temporary success or cultural expectations, your decisions begin to reflect God’s kingdom values—faithfulness, integrity, humility, and love.

3. You Experience Increasing Spiritual Stability

Life’s challenges no longer shake your sense of worth. While circumstances may change, your foundation remains firm. Like a tree with deep roots, you develop resilience, peace, and confidence because your identity is anchored in Christ.

A Hard but Honest Question

Many of us intellectually understand our identity in Christ, yet we still seek validation from other sources—achievement, relationships, or the opinions of others.

Where do you find your sense of worth when life becomes uncertain?

Recognizing these areas is the first step toward deeper spiritual stability.

3 Reflection Questions

Take a few minutes this week to prayerfully consider these:

  1. Where do I seek validation apart from Christ?
Are there areas where approval, success, or recognition defines your sense of worth?

  2. How does my identity in Jesus shape my daily decisions?
Consider how your choices in work, family, and relationships reflect your understanding of who you are in Him.

  3. What truth about who I am in Christ do I need to embrace?
Identify a specific biblical truth about your identity that God is inviting you to believe more deeply.

Don’t rush these. Transformation often begins with honest reflection.

TOOL OF THE WEEK — “Identity Anchor”

This week, take a few moments to anchor your heart in truth:

  1. Write down one false belief you’ve held about yourself (e.g., “I’m not enough,” “I have to prove my worth,” or “My past defines me.”)

  2. Replace it with a biblical truth (e.g., “I am chosen,” “I am forgiven,” “I am God’s workmanship.”)

  3. Declare this truth daily in prayer and reflection.

Small, intentional steps help retrain the heart to live from acceptance rather than striving.

IDENTITY PRAYER

“Lord, anchor my identity in You so that I live from security rather than striving. Help me to rest in Your love, make decisions that reflect Your truth, and walk with confidence in who You have called me to be. Amen.”
