Tired at Work? This Changes Everything

Got 3 Minutes? Anchored in Purpose: Why Work is More Than a Paycheck

The picture of GRIND

We’ve all had those Mondays when the alarm goes off and your first thought is, “Here we go again.” The grind feels endless. The to-do list is longer than your energy. And by Friday, you’re drained.

For many, that cycle feels normal. But here’s the danger: if work is only about getting paid, it eventually becomes heavy, monotonous, even soul-crushing. Paychecks are necessary, but they aren’t enough to give life meaning.

That’s why Paul wrote…

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

Colossians 3:23

Notice: Paul isn’t talking just to pastors, missionaries, or “religious” workers. He’s writing to everyday believers—people with jobs, families, and responsibilities. He reframes work not as survival, but as stewardship. Not as something you have to do, but something you get to dedicate to God.

This perspective transforms the way we show up:

  • A mechanic fixing an engine isn’t just repairing a car—he’s honoring God through excellence.

  • A teacher in the classroom isn’t just earning a paycheck—she’s shaping lives God cares deeply about.

  • A parent folding laundry or cooking dinner isn’t just doing chores—it’s serving with love that reflects Christ.

Here’s the truth: the difference between burnout and fulfillment is often what (or Who) you believe you’re working for.

Think about it—resentment often grows when we feel unseen, unappreciated, or undervalued. But when you anchor your purpose in God, you realize your work is worship. Even the unnoticed things matter to Him.

It’s not about loving every task. It’s about offering every task.

Ask Yourself:

  • Where have I been working for people’s approval instead of the Lord’s?

  • What’s one part of my work I can reframe as worship this week?

  • How would my energy shift if I saw my job as calling, not just survival?

Call to Action:

  • Write out “I work for the Lord” at the top of your planner, calendar, or job site notes this week. Let that phrase reset your perspective every time you look at it.

  • For premium subscribers, we have “Faith at Work Reflection Guide”— A journaling page designed to connect your calling, stewardship, and Scripture with your daily work. Use it to process how your job becomes more than survival—how it can become worship.

  • Forward this newsletter to someone who’s weary at work and might need a reminder that their purpose is bigger than their paycheck. Don’t forget to check out this week’s Faith Forward Podcast episode, where we dig into how anchoring your work in God’s purpose can shift everything.

I’d love to hear from you: reply and tell me—what’s one task you’re choosing to do as worship this week?
