“One Thing to Strengthen Before the Year Ends”

Got 3 Minutes? Before January Hits, Strengthen This

Seeing the point in the midst of chaos

We’re continuing our STRONG FINISH series — helping you end 2025 with clarity, strength, and momentum.

Today I want to simplify something every man feels this time of year:
the pressure to fix everything at once.

The truth?
You can’t fix everything.
But you can strengthen one thing.
And one step of repair can change your whole direction.

One Thing to Strengthen Before the Year Ends

Here’s a feeling that hits most guys around mid-December:

“I didn’t do enough this year.”

Maybe that sounds familiar.
You look back over the last 12 months and you see the moments you dropped the ball.
Things you intended to work on… but didn’t.
Areas you wanted to strengthen… but slipped.

That tension is real — but it’s not meant to shame you.
It’s meant to guide you.

Because here’s the truth: You don’t rebuild a life in a week, a month, or even a year.
You rebuild one decision at a time.

And sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is choose one area… and strengthen it before January hits.

The Power of “One Thing”

Think about it:

  • One honest conversation can reset a marriage.

  • One small habit can restart your spiritual life.

  • One act of generosity can break selfishness.

  • One decision to rest can restore your health.

  • One reconnection can revive a friendship.

  • One boundary can protect your mind.

When men try to fix everything, they end up fixing nothing.
But when a man chooses one meaningful repair — momentum begins.

What Slipped This Year?

You’re not alone. Every man has an area that drifted:

Marriage:
Maybe the connection faded. Maybe stress got in the way.
You love your wife — but the pursuit slowed down.

Spiritual Life:
Maybe prayer became inconsistent.
Maybe Scripture got pushed aside by noise and fatigue.

Health:
Maybe the gym slipped.
Maybe stress eating became normal.
Maybe sleep suffered.

Friendships:
Maybe you isolated.
Maybe you stopped checking in on people who matter.

Emotional Life:
Maybe you hid your stress instead of naming it.
Maybe you shut down instead of reaching out.

Brother — none of this disqualifies you.
It just shows where God wants to strengthen you.

The Bible’s Pattern: Restoration

Scripture never gives us a picture of a God who says:
“Well, you messed it up. Too bad.”

Instead He says: “Restore to me the joy of your salvation…”
— Psalm 51:12

and

“I will restore to you the years the locusts have eaten.”
— Joel 2:25

Restoration is God’s specialty.
Rebuilding is His nature.
Renewing is His work.

All He needs is your yes.

Your One Thing

You don’t need a list.
You need a focus.

Ask yourself:

“What’s the one area that, if strengthened, would change everything else?”

Maybe it’s intimacy with God.
Maybe it’s engagement with your wife.
Maybe it’s presence with your kids.
Maybe it’s rest and health.
Maybe it’s community and brotherhood.

Strengthen that one thing — even a small step — and your whole life will begin to shift.

Ask Yourself:

  1. What did I unintentionally neglect this year?

  2. What is one small, simple step I can take to repair it this week?

  3. Who do I need to talk to, ask for help from, or reconnect with?

TOOL OF THE WEEK — “The One-Step Repair Plan”

Here’s a simple exercise you can do TODAY:

  • Step 1: Name Your One Thing.

    • Keep it single. Keep it specific.
      (Example: “Communication in my marriage.”)

  • Step 2: Identify ONE Repair Step.

    • Not five. One.
(Example: “Have a real conversation tonight without my phone.”)

  • Step 3: Put It On the Calendar.

    • If it’s not scheduled, it’s just a wish.

  • Step 4: Pray This Daily:

    • “God, help me strengthen what slipped — with Your grace, not my guilt.”

    • That’s it. Small steps create strong lives.
