Cleaning so we can Rebuild…

Some of the clutter in your life
wasn’t planted by you.

It blew in.

Storms leave debris.
In Louisiana, we know this.
After a hard storm, your yard can be covered with limbs, trash, and damage you didn’t choose.

Spiritually, it’s the same.
Some of what’s blocking your growth isn’t distraction or weight —
it’s unresolved hurt.

This week in Faith Forward,
we’re talking about clearing what the storm left behind.
Not by pretending it didn’t hurt.
But by letting God tend to it.

Because you can’t build strong on top of unhealed damage.

You Can’t Build on Unprocessed Pain

Most people don’t deny they’ve been hurt.
We just don’t deal with it.

We keep working.
We keep providing.
We keep leading.
We keep moving.

But unprocessed pain doesn’t disappear.
It hardens.

It shows up as:

  • overreactions

  • emotional distance

  • irritability

  • control

  • numbness

Storm debris doesn’t remove itself.
It has to be cleared.

And here’s the danger: You can build on top of damage — but whatever you build will always be weaker.

Not because you’re failing. But because the foundation is crowded with unresolved weight.

Scripture says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Notice what that assumes: hearts get broken, and wounds are real.

God doesn’t shame you for being wounded.
He invites you to bring the wound into the light.

Most of us were taught to be tough, not honest.
To push through, not slow down.
To stay busy, not to feel.

But strength that never heals becomes brittle.

This is why some people:

  • shut down emotionally

  • overreact to small things

  • avoid conflict at all costs

  • or stay constantly distracted

Not because they’re weak.
Because something still hurts.

Three Signs You’re Stepping Over Debris:

  1. You overreact to small things.
The reaction is bigger than the moment because the pain is older than the moment.

  2. You stay busy to avoid being still.
Silence feels uncomfortable because it brings feelings you’ve buried.

  3. You feel guarded even with people you love.
Trust was damaged somewhere, and your heart learned to protect itself.

Here’s the hard but hopeful truth: Healing doesn’t happen by ignoring the storm.
It happens by clearing what it left behind.

God doesn’t rush you past your pain. He walks with you through it.

And you don’t have to clear everything at once.
You just have to stop stepping over it.

Ask yourself this honest question: “What storm did my life go through that I never really cleaned up?”

You don’t need to relive it.
But you do need to let God tend to what it left.

Because growth doesn’t happen on top of rubble.
It happens in cleared ground.

TOOL OF THE WEEK — “The Debris Check”

Try this once this week:

Set aside 10 quiet minutes.
Ask God these three questions:

  • What still hurts that I’ve never really named?

  • What do I avoid feeling by staying busy or distracted?

  • What reaction in me points to an older wound?

End with this prayer:

“Lord, I’m tired of stepping over this.
Help me begin clearing what the storm left behind.
Heal what I’ve been carrying.
Amen.”

Healing starts with honesty.
