Protecting the growth…

March has been about clearing.

You cleared clutter.
You cut weight.
You faced what the storm left behind.
You planted what you want to grow.

Now comes the unglamorous part: Protecting what grows.

New growth is fragile. Without boundaries, it doesn’t last.

This week in Faith Forward,
we’re talking about maintenance —
not as boredom,
but as maturity.

Because growth isn’t lost in one bad decision. It’s lost through unguarded days.

Maintenance Is Maturity

Most people love breakthroughs. We don’t love maintenance.

Breakthroughs feel powerful. Maintenance feels small.

But growth doesn’t last without protection.

Every farmer knows this:
New growth attracts threats.
Weeds return.
Animals show up.
Weather changes.
Neglect creeps in.

Your life is no different.

You clear distractions.
You cut weight.
You heal old wounds.
You plant new rhythms.

And then life presses in again.

Deadlines return.
Stress ramps up.
Old habits knock at the door.
People pressure you back into old patterns.

Here’s the danger: You don’t lose progress because you don’t care. You lose it because you don’t guard it.

Scripture says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Guarding isn’t paranoia. It’s stewardship.

You protect what you value.

Growth doesn’t require more willpower. It requires clearer boundaries.

Three Ways Growth Gets Undone:

  1. Unguarded time.
You protect your schedule for work — but not for prayer, rest, or family.

  2. Unguarded inputs.
You don’t protect what comes into your mind, so clarity erodes.

  3. Unguarded relationships.
You allow voices that weaken your resolve to shape your decisions.

This is why maintenance matters.

Breakthroughs get you started.
Boundaries keep you going.

And boundaries aren’t walls to keep life out. They’re fences that protect what’s alive.

Ask yourself this honest question: Where am I leaving the gate open?

What habit creeps back in when you’re tired?
What time of day are you most vulnerable?
What environment weakens your resolve?

You don’t have to guard everything.
Just guard what matters most right now.

Protection is not legalism.
It’s leadership.

TOOL OF THE WEEK — “The Gate Check”

This week, identify one “gate” that needs guarding.

Choose one boundary to set:

  • No phone before prayer

  • No work email after a set time

  • One protected family night

  • One protected block for rest

Pray: “God, help me guard what You’re growing in me. Show me where I’ve left the gate open. Give me courage to set one clear boundary. Amen.”

Small boundaries protect big growth.
