Are Life's Waves Hitting You Hard? Anchors Hold...

Got 3 Minutes? Anchored in Storms: Why Faith Holds When Life Shakes

Bills, job, marriage, kids….

A few years ago, I remember sitting with someone whose life had just been hit with wave after wave. First a job loss, then a medical diagnosis, then a strained relationship. At one point they asked, “Why does it feel like everything is crashing down at once?”

If you’ve lived long enough, you know the truth: storms aren’t optional. The question isn’t if they’ll come—it’s when.

Paul understood this. In Acts 27, he was caught in a violent storm at sea. The winds howled, the waves pounded, the ship seemed doomed. And yet, in the middle of chaos, Paul declared:

“But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost… For I have faith in God.” (Acts 27:22, 25)

Notice: Paul didn’t deny the storm. He didn’t pretend the waves weren’t real. He simply chose a greater reality—faith in God.

Here’s the thing about anchors: they don’t stop the waves. They don’t make the storm disappear. What they do is hold you in place so you’re not swept away.

That’s the essence of resilience. Resilience isn’t about avoiding pain—it’s about staying tethered to Christ in the middle of it.

Paul heard Jesus’ words echoing in his own weakness:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Storms expose our weakness, but they also reveal the strength of God’s grace.

So when the wind picks up in your life—whether it’s health struggles, financial pressure, family conflict, or just the weight of anxiety—remember: your anchor isn’t your ability to hold it all together. Your anchor is Christ holding you.

Ask Yourself:

  • What storm am I currently facing, big or small?

  • Where am I tempted to believe the waves have more power than my anchor?

  • How might I experience God’s grace in the very place I feel weakest?
